Gold! Your Teaching Excellence Framework playlist

We are now in the middle of TEF year two. Institutions (or ‘providers’ if you must) have made their submissions and assessors are now assessing. We’ll hear the outcomes (and submit the appeals) in a month or so (General Election permitting). But in the meantime, what songs are assessors listening to as they review the metrics and make their initial hypotheses?

My guess is that some of the following are on the TEF office turntable.

Note that five of the following are made up songs – guaranteed medal upgrade for your institution if you can identify them all:

Gold – Spandau Ballet
The Bronze Age – Queens of the Stone Age
Magic – Pilot
Long term evaluation – Out of Scope
By the light of the silvery moon – Doris Day
Make it count – Learning Gain
Band of Gold – Freda Payne

Any others which should be on the TEF team playlist? [This should be made into a Spotify playlist surely? Ed.]

That should, of course be Piss Factory….auto-correct strikes again.

And let’s have Up Where We Belong – Buffy Sainte-Marie.

  • Dan Ashley

Going For Gold – Shed Seven.

Rick Witter will be devastated to have been overlooked again. He wrongly thought the London Olympics would bring a bumper royalties return.

  • Steve Rowlstone

Nice to see Hawkwind get a mention, although you are missing Nine Inch Nails with a potential selection of ‘Last’, ‘Right Where It Belongs’ , ‘Gave Up’ or ‘Something I Could Never Have’

    • Paul Norris

Nine Inch Nails also give us Hurt, or shifting to albums, The Downward Spiral

      • Steve Rowlstone

I was tempted with those but thought I’d go a bit more left field with selections

  • John Baker

Surely a bit of room for the Golden Silvers!

    Will Young’s Gold: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoxIRvdPBUI

Or Bronze by Gwilym Gold: https://vimeo.com/24013359

Cross cutting issues – Quality Threshold, Grounds for appeal – Split Metrics, Make it count – Learning Gain, Long term evaluation – Out of Scope & Provisional award – Subject Levels all sound a little tinny to these ears!

      Got them all!

  • Alex Usher

    Silver – The Pixies

  • Neil Ward

Silver – Echo and the Bunnymen

  • Paul Greatrix

  • Sam Weir

    Sting’s discipline-specific Fields of Gold

‘Silver and Gold’ by Iron Maiden side-project A.S.A.P.

  • Chris Lawton

Gold Against The Soul – Manic Street Preachers

    Being rather cynical –

    Little Lies – Fleetwood Mac
    Mustn’t Grumble – Chas n Dave
Any Old Iron – Harry Champion (if you are off the TEF scale)
Miserable Saturday Night – Chas n Dave (again for teams off the TEF scale)
